Before you start: a liver-safety note

Concentrated green tea extract, the kind in this product, carries a documented liver-injury signal. The NIH LiverTox database rates Camellia sinensis (green tea extract, EGCG) a Category A cause, meaning well established, of clinically apparent liver injury, including cases of acute liver failure, with onset typically one to six months after starting the product. Source: NIH LiverTox, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK547925/

This finding is specific to concentrated supplement extracts, not brewed tea as a drink. A 2018 EFSA safety review found that 800 mg or more of EGCG a day from supplements is associated with a statistically significant rise in liver transaminases, the blood markers of liver stress, and that the risk is higher when a concentrated extract is taken as a single large dose on an empty stomach. This is why this product is meant to be taken with a meal, within the label dose, as directed below, and not as an open-ended daily habit.

Keep any course to eight to twelve weeks, then take a break before restarting. Longer use only with a doctor's oversight.

Stop taking it and seek medical advice if you notice yellowing of the eyes or skin, dark urine, persistent nausea, or unusual tiredness.

Not recommended on an empty stomach, at doses above the label, or for anyone with an existing liver condition, without talking to a doctor first.

How to take it

Take 1 capsule with a meal, up to 2 capsules a day. Keep a course to eight to twelve weeks, then take a break.
