Key takeaways
  • The system pairs three herbs: Tribulus, Ashwagandha and Tongkat Ali, plus 7 bonus Shield Shots.
  • Each herb has a different, modest evidence story. Ashwagandha lowers cortisol, Tongkat Ali has the strongest testosterone data, Tribulus has the weakest.
  • It suits adult men with the basics in place who want a structured course. It is not a replacement for sleep, training or medical care.

Most men's vitality products sell a feeling. This one is easier to judge if you know exactly what is in the box and what each herb has actually shown in human trials. So here is the plain version: three herbs, three different jobs, and an honest read of the evidence behind each.

If you have already read the daily routine guide, this is the step before it. The 2-meal routine post covers how to take it. The five-mistakes post covers what goes wrong. This one covers what is inside and who it fits.

What is inside the box

Ancient Nutra's Men's Vitality and Performance System contains three bottles of 60 capsules each, plus seven 30ml Shield Shots to start the routine:

  • Tribulus terrestris (Gokshura) extract: the traditional Ayurvedic herb for male reproductive wellness.
  • Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) extract: the Ayurvedic adaptogen most studied for stress and cortisol.
  • Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma longifolia) extract: a Southeast Asian root used for stamina and recovery.

One honest note on the word "Ayurvedic". Two of the three herbs belong to that tradition. Tongkat Ali does not: it is a Southeast Asian root, often sold as Longjack. The system is a modern pairing of old herbs, not a single classical formula.

How each herb earns its place

Ashwagandha: the stress-side partner

Stress and vitality are tied together. A 2025 systematic review and meta-analysis of seven randomized trials (488 participants) found Ashwagandha lowered serum cortisol by 1.16 µg/dL versus placebo (Nutrition and Health, 2025). The same review found no significant change in perceived stress scores. So the signal is on the biology side, and how people feel is less certain.

Tongkat Ali: the stamina-side partner

This is the herb with the firmest testosterone data. A 2022 meta-analysis of five randomized trials found a significant rise in total testosterone with Eurycoma longifolia in healthy and hypogonadal men (Medicina, 2022). Its authors still call for more research before clinical use. A separate 6-month trial in 45 men with age-related androgen deficiency used 200 mg daily alongside training, and the best erectile function results came from men doing both (Maturitas, 2021). That design cannot separate the herb from the workouts, which is worth knowing. For a single-herb version, see Ancient Nutra's Longjack-Tongkat Extract.

Tribulus: the traditional one with the thinnest evidence

A 2025 systematic review of ten studies (483 men) found that 400 to 750 mg a day for 1 to 3 months improved erectile function in 3 of the 5 studies that measured it, and found no robust evidence of a testosterone increase (Nutrients, 2025). Half the studies were rated low quality. Tribulus is in the system for its long place in Ayurvedic practice, not for a proven hormone effect. It is also sold on its own as Tribulus Extract.

Why combine them at all

The reasoning is about covering different angles rather than stacking one big dose. One herb addresses cortisol and the stress load. One has testosterone and stamina research behind it. One carries a traditional reproductive-wellness role. The system uses moderate amounts of all three instead of pushing a single ingredient hard.

The limit of that logic: no trial has tested these three together, so the combination itself is a design choice, not a proven result. Each herb's evidence belongs to that herb.

Look for

On any vitality product, the label should name each herb by its Latin name, state the plant part and extract, and list the amount per capsule. If a label hides the amounts behind a "proprietary blend", you cannot compare it to the trials above.

Where the herbs come from

Heritage is a voice choice, so here is the factual version. Ashwagandha's commercial growing belt is India, mainly Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Tongkat Ali is a Southeast Asian root. Tribulus is a hardy plant that grows across many warm regions. None of these is a Sri Lankan crop, and the article makes no claim that they are. What the brand adds is the formulation, the capsule format and the course-based directions on the label.

How to judge it fairly

A supplement course is easy to misread, because everything else in your life changes at the same time. If you try the system, make the test a fair one:

  • Change one thing. Do not start a new training plan, a new diet and a new bottle in the same fortnight.
  • Write down a baseline. Note your sleep, training sessions and general energy before you begin, so you are comparing against notes and not memory.
  • Respect the break. The course structure is part of the design, so use the rest week the label asks for and notice what changes.
  • Keep the doctor in the loop. If you take regular medication or have a diagnosed condition, say so before you start.

Be wary of anyone who promises a fixed timeline for results. The trials above ran for different lengths, used different doses and measured different things, so no single timeline fits all three herbs.

Who it suits, and who should skip it

It tends to fit a man who:

  • already sleeps reasonably, eats enough protein and trains regularly, and wants a structured course on top;
  • carries a lot of ongoing stress and wants a stress-side herb in the mix;
  • prefers a clear daily routine over juggling several bottles.

It is a poor fit if you are hoping it will fix poor sleep, a poor diet or a medical issue. Persistent low energy, low libido or erectile problems are worth a conversation with a doctor, because they can have causes a supplement will not touch. Also read the safety section below before you start.

Safety and how to take it

Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, because of the Ashwagandha component. Speak with your doctor before use if you have a thyroid condition, an autoimmune condition, or take sedatives or immunosuppressants. Stop use and see a doctor if you notice unusual tiredness, nausea, loss of appetite, dark urine, or yellowing of the eyes or skin.

The label directs one capsule of each herb in the morning and one in the evening, with breakfast and dinner. Take the Ashwagandha and Tongkat Ali components in courses rather than continuously: a 1-week break after every 8 to 12 weeks of continuous use.

The bottom line

The system pairs three herbs that do different jobs and carry different amounts of evidence. Judge it on that, take it in courses, and let sleep, food and training do the heavy lifting. The science does not care which bottle the herbs come in.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Men's Vitality System a testosterone booster?

No, and it is not sold as one. The trials on these herbs are mostly single-herb studies with mixed results, and no trial has tested this exact combination. Think of it as a structured daily course built around stress, stamina and recovery, not a hormone shortcut.

How long should you take it?

Take the Ashwagandha and Tongkat Ali components in courses rather than continuously: a 1-week break after every 8 to 12 weeks of continuous use.

Who should check with a doctor first?

Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, because of the Ashwagandha component. Speak with your doctor before use if you have a thyroid condition, an autoimmune condition, or take sedatives or immunosuppressants. Stop use and see a doctor if you notice unusual tiredness, nausea, loss of appetite, dark urine, or yellowing of the eyes or skin.

Can a supplement system replace sleep, training and food?

No. Sleep, protein, regular training and managing stress come first. A system like this only adds something when that foundation is already in place.
